Gunmen have killed the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Onuimo State constituency, Christopher Elehu.
Elehu was shot dead in his Onuimo country home in the early hours of Friday during sporadic shootings that last over two hours.
The Network gathered that the gun-wielding assailants burnt his country home and destroyed several properties.
A source hinted that other politicians in the area were lucky to have escaped assassination as the gunmen visited several houses in the area.
Meanwhile, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has declared a manhunt for assassins.
The Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the Imo State Command, Mr Micheal Abattam, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the police has opened investigation into the murder.
Abattam also said that the police has commenced manhunt for the gunmen.
