FCT polls: Abaji Voters Decry Omission Of Names On Voter Register

News Investigators/ Many voters in the ongoing FCT election in Abaji Area Council decried the alleged omission of their names from the displayed voter register.

Some of the voters, who spoke with NAN, described the development as ‘very discouraging’.

“I have gone round different polling units with the little strength in me, considering the fact that I am fasting, but couldn’t find my name on the displayed voter register. This is very unfortunate.

“INEC should be sending our registration codes and polling centre numbers to us via SMS ahead of elections, going forward, to make things easier for voters,” one of the voters, Hajia Shittu Ramat, said.

Another voter, Hajia Musa Aisha, said that the situation was stressful and very discouraging.

NAN observed that male and female voters were seen standing in different queues in accordance with Islamic doctrine, as they waited to cast their votes after accreditation.

A voter, Mr Suleiman Yusuf, however, told NAN that the exercise had been peaceful since it commenced at 8:30 a.m., with security personnel on ground.

He commended INEC and its officials, saying that BVAS was working optimally.

NAN reports some traders took the opportunity of the large voter turnout to do brisk business, selling cold water, soft drinks and snacks, among other items.

Commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada were also seen around polling units dropping and picking voters.
