The Eastern Union (EU), a socio-political pressure group of the Old Eastern Central States of Anambra, Enugu, Rivers, Delta, Cross Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Imo, Delta, Ebonyi, Bayalsa and Abia states, has pledged to deliver 25 million votes to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election.
National President, of the EU, Hon. Charles Anike, in a statement on Saturday, said the organisation has mobilised it’s members across the old Eastern region to ensure that Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP), garnered a resounding victory in the coming presidential election.
Eastern Union, which was formed in 2006 by the people of old Eastern Region of Nigeria has a strong grassroots base in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones.
Anike stated that the EU has over the years, spread and maintained a strong presence across the country, especially in all the states of Southern Nigeria.
He added that the union has members in the North Central, especially in Benue and Plateau States, respectively.
“The EU has also maintained a strong leading voice on national issues. We have also maintained friendly relationships with fellow Nigerians of all walks of life.
“This has enabled us to network and convince millions of our friends and associates in our different locations to see the need to put Nigeria first in our quest to change the present leadership of the country.
“Nigeria needs a capable leadership that will restore hope for every Nigerian citizen. The country has been passing through several years of misrule and its citizens have been experiencing extreme hardship and disasters, especially under the present All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.
“The country deserves a leader of Obi’s standing that can bring a fast healing and restoration on the land. This is why we have taken it upon ourselves without any support, mobilising Nigerians across the country to ensure Obi’s victory at the presidential election.
“We are appealing to Nigerians of all walks of life not to miss this God-given opportunity to take back our country for any reason.
“We must not fall prey again to the hands of the evil genius politicians, who in many ways have contributed and are still contributing to our woes as a nation, because they are already preparing their arsenals to launch their deceitful and fake campaign promises.
“We must continue to remind ourselves that the present APC government and the previous PDP leadership laid the foundation for our present sufferings. Both governments over the years deliberately sustained the policy of unemployment of the Nigerian youths
“This is why we have taken it upon ourselves without for any support, mobilizing Nigerians across the country to ensure Obi’s victory at Presidential election.
“Every of the EU State Coordinator have been mandated to make sure they deliver at least one million votes for Obi in their respective States. We have used the EU platform to set up campaign cells in the wards of every State where EU is existing.
“Some School of thought believe that the continued unemployment of the youths is a ploy to make them a ready tool in the hands of political leaders who always apply same for raising and maintenance of growing army of hungry, aggrieved and wild youths, who will readily be available for thuggery and assassinations which has become the order of the day in our electioneering campaigns.
“We must also understand that as ordinarily people, as parents, and as workers, we share the same sense of loss, irrespective of religious beliefs or ethnicity, the truth is that we are not getting the dividends of democracy and that is why we must ACT NOW”.
“Unless this ugly trend is checked and arrested now, there may be no future indeed for the majority of Nigeria’s population.
“Make no mistake, what we are experiencing in today Nigeria, is a deliberate assults on the very value system that made sense of our World in the past.
“We are calling on all decent and humane Nigerians (home and abroad) to rally together for Nigeria to take her place of pride in comity of Nations, she must come up clearly with a leadership that will meet the challenges of this millennium. This will come in terms of focus, orientation, pedigree, passion, personal idiosyncrasies, vision, political beliefs and spiritual attributes.
“We in the Eastern Union enjoin fellow Nigerians to join hands for us to enthrone a God fearing, humane, purposeful leadership and respect for the common man come 2023. And this is quite possible under a tested, trusted, proven and verifiable friends of the masses of Nigeria- Obi-Datti Presidency.
“President Buhari, and his APC government has obviously accomplished alot, in full-filling their 2015 through 2019 campaign promises of bringing Nigeria and Nigerians from TOP to Bottom, via their stinking and dreadful change mantra.”
“No matter the odds and how much the APC-led government has reduced Nigerians to less human in the last seven years plus, l trust him (Buhari) much more than Atiku, because the devil we know is far far better than the angel pretending to be good enough for Nigeria…
“We therefore implore all well meaning citizens to “put on the armour and fight a good fight” in order to rescue Nigeria from this doldrums. We beseech you COMPATRIOTS not to be frightened by the magnitude of Nigeria’s problems.
“Let us take giant step of faith today and watch how God will bless and restore Nigeria and Nigerians in all ways, as we confront the frightening but solvable problems of NIGERIA under Obi-Datti Presidency, and we must remember, ‘a Patriot is that man who is willing to risk everything that is so DEAR to him, friends, fortunes, comfort, health and even life itself ‘ to salvage the society.”
