The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has given reasons he did not visit Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos when he attended Labour Party mega rally in Lagos on Feb. 11.

Speaking on Channels TV Monday, Obi reaffirmed that he has deep respect for the Oba of Lagos and indeed, all traditional rulers.

He explained that he owes  it as an obligation to visit the traditional ruler anywhere he visits on campaign.

Obi regretted that there are few occasions when he could not visit the traditional rulers.

“Lagos is not the only place I have not been able to see a traditional ruler. Most times, when we apply and seek appointment, the Oba may not be available to receive us. They always advise us to apply for another date.”

Obi disclosed that when he visited Owerri, he could not see the traditional ruler in Imo State. “ No issue about that,” he clarified.

Some public affairs analysts speculated that the reason Obi did not visit  the Oba’s palace was because of the controversial threat  some years ago to  throw throw the Igbos into the lagoon if they don’t vote APC.

Obi also affirmed that the opinion polls which put him ahead of all other candidates were were conducted by reputable organizations.

He said that he and his followers are motivated by the primary objective to makeNigeria a great nation owned by the people.
