The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Deputy Women Leader of Ward I Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, Mrs Ukamaka Udugbo, has been suspended by the party for torturing and abusing her 75 years old mother.
It would be recalled that Udugbo, aged 50, in a video clip that went viral had flogged her naked aged mother repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while she was lying helplessly on the floor.
She had since been arrested and detained for prosecution for the heinous act which had ignited outrage in some quarters.
The Chairman of APGA in the area, Hon. Anekwe Chinedu flayed the assault on Mrs Theresa Nwokaka by her daughter, who was APGA’s Deputy Women Leader of Ward One, Abagana.
Anekwe bemoaned the inhumane act of assaulting the poor mother, saying that such domestic violence against the aged was reprehensible, dastardly and unbecoming in the society.
He commended the state government and a member representing Njikoka II Constituency, Hon. Jude Akpua and the Nigerian Police for their ethos and pathos in handling the case .
The APGA Local Government Chairman said that the former deputy women leader has been suspended indefinitely by the party “as such crop of person oughtn’t to be allowed to be part of APGA political party”.
He noted that the suspension became necessary after investigation and verification from her ward chairman, Engr. Chinedu Obi-Okoye, who also went to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Awka, the state capital for fact-finding mission on the case for the party .
Anekwe noted that the erstwhile Deputy Women Leader who assaulted her age mother deserved a knock.
“Her action against her mother was an assault against humanity and must be condemned by all right thinking person.
“The decision of the party to suspend her was a smart step to save the party from the infamy attendant to her dastardly gesture,” he said.
