News Investigators/ The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has not fared well in transparency, accountability and rural development.
The Lagos State PDP Vice Chairman (Central), Hakeem Olalemi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)on Friday in Lagos.
He was speaking on the performance of the Sanwo-Olu administration in the last two years.
Mr Olalemi, however ,rated Sanwo-Olu high in infrastructure development.
“Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office is a little bit better than.the first term because this time around, there is focus on infrastructure development.
“However, the problem we are having with the administration is that it is not transparent enough. We are rating him low in transparency and accountability.
“Anytime government is giving out contracts, it is the right of the citizens to know at what value and details.
“The government has to be more transparent in its dealings with the people,” Olalemi said.
He urged Sanwo-Olu to also focus on developing rural areas because “this will bring about even distribution of wealth”.
According to him, impact of governance should be felt both in the rural areas and urban areas .
“There must be a determined effort to uplift lives in rural areas.
“If you go to some of these rural areas, you will see that development has really eluded them. He should work more on this and be more transparent,” he added.
Speaking on the recently inaugurated housing units by the administration, Olalemi said that the challenge had always been making affording housing to low-income earners.
He said that those who truly need the government’s intervention in housing not always benefit eventually.
Olalemi, who noted that the wealth of the state had not worked for the ordinary people, urged the state government to do more to alleviate poverty.
