Agege Residents Hail 50% Food Discount As Relief Deepens

News Investigators/ Residents of Agege Local Government Area in Lagos on Sunday praised the second 50 per cent food discount programme, describing it as timely relief easing household pressures.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls the first edition held on Feb. 15, which saw widespread participation and significant benefits for many residents.

The initiative, introduced by council chairman, Abdulganiyu Obasa, enables families to purchase essential food items at half price within the area.

In partnership with T.Topps Foods, the council offered discounted staples, providing relief ahead of Ramadan and Lenten observances.

Residents said the programme improved access to quality food at subsidised rates amid persistent economic challenges and rising living costs.

Mrs Nike Adegunju, a beneficiary, said: “I benefitted from the first edition and I am here again.

“This programme has been a saving grace for my family, especially with high food prices. I am grateful to the council.”

Ms Toyin Ojo described the initiative as timely, commending the chairman for responding to residents’ needs.

Mr Dipo Adegboyega, a trader, said: “I commend the chairman for this effort.

“It is not easy running a household, but this discount has eased the pressure. I bought rice and beans at affordable rates.”

Mrs Kehinde Adeosun, a mother of four, said: “This is people-centred governance.

“The chairman understands residents’ struggles. I urge continuity, as the programme brings real relief.”

Mr Tunde Ogungbemi added: “The timing is perfect, especially on Easter Sunday. This is truly a blessing for the community.”

NAN reports that the initiative has become a symbol of relief in Agege, reducing hardship and strengthening community resilience.
