Kuje Correctional Centre is boiling with protests following the death of an inmate linked to prison Warders’ carelessness in handling the inmate’s alleged ill- health, which resulted to his death on Monday.
Following the death of the inmate, his co-prisoners went on rampage blaming the cause of their friend’s death on the Warders’ negligence.
There were indications that some prisoners tried to take advantage of the confusion to attempt to escape from the prison facility but were prevented by the security men in duty.
According to prison sources, the protest was caused by the death of the inmate, who allegedly died without medical attention.
Recall that hundreds of inmates were freed, including terrorists a month ago, when the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, was attacked by Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
Few days later, the ISWAP claimed responsibility for the attack at the prison facility.
While the Federal Government has claimed that security operatives have recaptured some of the inmates
many of them are still at large.
