Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been elected the Presidential Candidate of the People Democratic Party for the 2023 general election.
The former Vice President who was the Presidential Candidate in the 2019 elections defeated 12 other candidates to clinch the PDP Presidential ticket.
Atiku polled 371 votes to clinch the PDP Presidential ticket at the Moshood Abiola Stadium venue of the election which witnessed 763 vote cast with 12 void votes.
Signs of an early Atiku victory became visible when the Governor of Sokoto State, an erstwhile ally of Governor Nyesom Wike pulled out of the race and handed his delegates to Atiku.
The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri carried out the task of counting the votes in the election.
The Chairman of the electoral committee, Senator David Mark returned Atiku as the winner having polled the highest number of votes in the election.
The Governor of Rivers State came second in the hard fought battle with 237 votes while former President of Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, came third with 70 votes.
Others are the Governor of Akwa Ibom, Emnanuel Udom: 38, Bala Mohammed: 20; former Senate President, Pius Anyim : 14 vote Tari Oliver Daiana: One vote; and Sam Ohabuwa, one vote.
Even before the conclusion of the counting, Atiku’s men had started the victory dance going by the votes of the other contestants.
