WTT Ups 2025 Contender Lagos Prize Money

News Investigators/ The management of the WTT Series has announced a major increase in the prize pool for the 2025 WTT Contender Lagos tournament.

The total prize money has risen from $75,000 (₦115 million) to $100,000 (₦153 million), representing a 33 per cent boost in the overall purse.

This increase aims to enhance player rewards and raise the tournament’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Alongside financial incentives, players will also gain more world ranking points based on their performance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event is scheduled from July 22 to 26 at Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The development aligns with WTT’s commitment to improving player welfare and fair compensation for their efforts.

Winners of the singles events will each receive $5,000 (₦7.6 million) and 400 ranking points.

From the main draw onwards, all singles players will earn prize money and world ranking points.

In doubles and mixed doubles categories, winners will get $2,500 (₦3.8 million) and 400 points per player.

Players reaching the round of 16 in these events will also be rewarded financially and with points.

Tournament Director, Kweku Tandoh stressed the need to prioritise players in WTT tournaments.

“We know the sacrifices athletes make to participate in WTT events. This over 30 per cent prize increase is a deliberate step by WTT management to honour that commitment.

“At WTT, player welfare is paramount, and Lagos is proud to maintain that standard,” he said.

He noted that WTT Contender Lagos has become one of the most dynamic events in the WTT calendar.

With strong Lagos State support and an energetic fan base, it stands out in Nigeria’s sports scene.

The Local Organising Committee is determined to elevate this year’s edition to world-class standards.

NAN reports the 2025 edition promises thrilling table tennis action and intense global competition.

Top-ranked players from around the world will compete in this prestigious African flagship sporting event.
