The Anglican Diocese of Nnewi, the proprietor of the Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Anambra’ State has said that it supports a genuine investigation as the only way of resolving the raging controversy over the originality or otherwise of the result of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme and the position of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB).

The church said it has thrown weight behind the decision of the state government to carry out full scale investigation into the controversies surrounding the Mmesoma’s result in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This is as the State Government denied any involvement in drafting operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) to arrest and investigate Mmesoma.

It disclosed that it was not the State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who invited the DSS to arrest Mmesoma Ejikeme.

The Anglican Church maintained that it is behind the state government in any genuine efforts to investigate the allegation of forgery of UTME score by its student Mmesoma Ejikeme.

The diocese made known its position on Wednesday during a press conference in Nnewi the commercial town of the state.

Speaking on the incodent, Mr  Henry Nduka, the Education Secretary of the Diocese said the Diocese is confused with the claims and counter- claims by both Mmesoma and JAMB.

He stated that what the management of the church wants to know the actual truth of the matter.

Also, the Administrative Secretary of the Diocese, Venerable Chukwunonso Arinze, urged family members of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, not to be cajoled into making comments that are untrue but to wait until the final investigations by relevant bodies are concluded.

The State Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu told newsmen on Wednesday there have been several attacks on the social media against the State Education Commissioner for inviting the DSS to pick the young girl.

He said others reprimanded the Commissioner for being too quick to celebrate the other girl Miss Nkechinyere Umeh who was proclaimed by JAMB to have secured the highest score of 360.

Nwosu stated that it was when the Education Commissioner invited Mmesoma and her Principal to her office and called JAMB to inquire what happened that JAMB invited the DSS into the matter.

Nwosu said the government had constituted a high-powered committee of inquiry to unravel the truth behind the entire story.
