The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma has directed security operatives to find those behind the beheading of the Sole Administrator of the Ideato North Local Government Area, Chris Ohizu.
The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Declan Emelumba, said in a statement on Tuesday described the cold blooded murder of the council chairman as benumbing and cruel.
Emelumba said that several other members of the All Progressives Congress whose names he listed in the statement had been murdered in the State in the past.
The Government Spokesman urged those behind the dastardly act to the killings which have created an aura of uncertainty in the State. “The Government of Imo State is saddened by the brutal and cruel murder on Sunday, January 22, of the Sole Administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area, Chris Ohizu.
“The chilling assassination of Mr. Ahizu in cold blood is as benumbing as it is callous.
“This killing falls in line with the targeting of members of the ruling APC, government officials, and their friends.
“Those previously murdered in cold blood include Orlu APC LGA woman leader, Jenny Rachael Okonkwo (Iron Lady); Nze Chidi Ejiaka; Barr. Darlington Odume; Nze Nwachukwu Igboayaka; Mrs. Helen Nnakwe; Collins Okey Agah, Chukwudi Dimagwu; Eddy Ofuefule; all APC chieftains from Orlu, and many others as well as Emma Mazi, former IMC chairman of Oguta LGA.
“It is unfortunate that even those who are quick to shout about insecurity in the state never found their voices to condemn these cold-blooded killings in the past and are not saying anything also on the latest killing.
“Be that as it may, government condemns this cold-blooded murder on a Sunday and urged the perpetrators of the dastardly act and their sponsors to resist the temptation of going ahead with this bloodletting which has plunged the state into the current state of uncertainty.”
Gunmen had beheaded Sole Administrator of the Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Chris Ohizu who was kidnapped on Friday.
The gunmen perpetrated the grisely murder of the Council Chairman after the deceased family had paid N6m ramson to the abductors
The council boss was kidnapped alongside two others on Friday last week after his home at Imoko community in Arondizuogu area of the LGA was razed.
He was reportedly shot before he was whisked away by his abductors.
Videos of his beheading surfaced online on Sunday evening.
Two others who were with him during the time of the attack in the early hours of Friday were also kidnapped.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Police in the state, Henry Okoye, said that investigation was ongoing.
This is coming less than a week after the home of the spokesperson of Coalition of United Political Parties, Ugochinyere Imo, was attacked at Akokwa community in the Ideato North LGA, with three persons killed and about 33 vehicles razed.
Two days ago in Oguta, gunmen stormed Agwa community but for the timely intervention of the police the story would have been different. In the ensuing gun battle our source said one gunman was killed although police said it gunned down three of the gunmen.
