Hope Uzodinma, the incumbent Governor of Imo State and the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the just concluded Imo off-cycle Governorship election has dedicated his victory to God.
Uzodimma, was declared winner with an overwhelming score of 540,308 to defeat his opponent, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled a distant 71,503 votes.
The Labour Party (LP), candidate, Athan Achonu, came third with a total score of 64,081.
A total of 18 political parties participated in the election.
The Returning Officer, Abayomi Fasola, a professor, who was the returning officer, declared Uzodimma winner, Sunday, at about 10 a.m, for scoring the highest number of votes and also the majority votes in all the 27 Local Areas of the State, satisfying the constitutional requirements.
Uzodimma, while, reacting, dedicated his victory to God for making it possible for him to win.
He also thanked the Imo citizens for being behind him.
He declared his commitment to use the opportunity of his second tenure to do more work for the people of the State, as he promised during his campaign.
While the governor scored 22,356 votes in Ikeduru Local Government Area (Anyanwu’s local council); the PDP’s candidate had 7,258 votes. The deputy governor of the state, Placid Njoku, hails from that local council.
In the case of the LP standard bearer, Achonu, Uzodimma, also defeated him in his local council, Ehime Mbano, with 6,632 votes to the former who had 4,958.
Uzodimma, also scored 67,315 in his local council (Oru East), defeating Anyanwu and Achonu, who had 3,443 and 2,202 votes respectively.
Meanwhile, Anyanwu, and Achonu have faulted the process, maintaining that there were electoral process was mared by irregularities.
Uzodimma, is expected to be sworn in for a second tenure on Jan. 15, 2024.
