TWO TOP JUDGES DIE IN ONE DAY IN NIGERIA

The Nigerian judiciary has suffered a heavy loss as two top judges died on Sunday.

The deceased are Justice Centus Chima Nweze of the Supreme Court and Justice Peter Mallong of the Kaduna Division.

The publicity secretary the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Habeeb Akorede,  described Justice Nweze as an exemplary judicial officer who made serious impact in the judicial system in a statement on Monday.

The NBA condoled the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, the  Judiciary, the Government and People of Enugu State, friends and family of Justice Nweze on the sad occurrence.

 “His lordship’s numerous decisions have shaped, impacted and developed our law and jurisprudence. He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer.” The statement read in part.

The lawyers body prayed to the Almighty God to comfort the family, the state government and the nation’s judiciary.

Justice Nweze a highly reputable and respected Justice, delivered the dissenting judgement in the appeal filed by former Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha against Gov Hope Uzodimma in 2020.

The late Supreme Court Justice Nweze, was born on September 25, 1958.

Justice Nweje, a native of Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, is survived by his wife, Hon Justice Ugonne Jacinta Nweze of the Enugu State Judiciary,  five children and a grandchild.

Also, the sudden death of Justice Mallong was announced by the Chief Registrar of FHC, Hassan Amida Sulaiman in a statement on Monday.

Sulaiman said that Justice Mallong passed on after a brief illness in Abuja on Sunday.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our own , Hon. Justice Peter Mallong, a judge of the Federal High Court, who passed away on Sunday unexpectedly after a brief illness in Abuja.

“We will miss him more than words can express.


“Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due time.” The statement read
