Tragedy struck on Saturday as suspected kidnappers killed a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr. Leornard Alegu in Anambra State.
The sad incident, according to sources close to the victim occurred around 10pm at Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
Late Alegu was said to be on his way to the commercial city of Onitsha for the child dedication ceremony when his assailants accosted him as he stopped along the expressway.
In a failed attempt to kidnap him, his assailants fatally shot him and reportedly made away with his car and other valuables.
Late Alegu was said to be in company with some friends when the incident happened.
A colleague in Onitsha who spoke under condition of anonymity said the matter has been brought to the attention of the police.
“We have reported the matter to the Oyi Police Division, even though we are not exactly sure how to proceed right now because we are devastated.|”
The source said that the remains of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue.
Both the Anambra Police Command and the Ebonyi State Government had not issued any official statement at the time of filing this report.
