…SAYS VOTE-BUYING DOESN’T PROVIDE GOOD GOVERNANCE
The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), on Monday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for its conduct of the Osun governorship election.
Chairman of the TMG, Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani, described the INEC efforts as praiseworthy adding that the umpire complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
In a statement titled “Post Election Statement on the Gubernatorial Election In Osun State, July 2022”, Rafsanjani, stated that the INEC was perfect with regards to assisting and providing assistance and technology for persons with disabilities.
He commended INEC for it’s efficient election logistics arrangement which he said they employed by making sure that officials and materials to the polling units across the state of Osun, were duly deployed on time.
Meanwhile, the group also lauded the media and other stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring peaceful and non-violent elections, stressing that the people of the state performed well for massive involment and participation in the election.
“The 2022 Osun Governorship Election had generated much interests in the country just like the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Ekiti.
“The off-season elections generated high expectations among citizens, not just in Ekiti and Osun, but all over the country as it was expected to reflect citizens expectations towards the General Election in 2023, especially with regards to the reforms instituted by the new Electoral Act, 2022 as amended” the Group stated.
TMG, expressed satisfaction throughout the electioneering process, especially on the high level of voters’ mobilisation activities by the media and civil society groups.
According to Rafsanjani, the availability of voters to exercise their franchise in the election debates by contributing their quota in ensuring critical interactions with citizens was part of entrenching issue-based campaigns in the election.
Speaking on vote-buying, Rafsanjani urged voters to resist selling their future and good governance as vote-buying doesn’t provide good governance, transparent and accountable leadership.
The group, also called on the security operatives to always conduct themselves in the highest decorum to ensure in accordance with expectations.
