News Investigators/ President Bola Tinubu on Thursday presided over the meeting of the Council of State, with former Heads of State Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar attending virtually.
βThe News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tinubu arrived at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, at exactly 1:29 p.m. for the hybrid meeting, which convened both physical and virtual participants.
βNAN reports that the Council of State includes all surviving former Presidents and Heads of State, the Vice President, and serving and retired Chief Justices of the Supreme Court.
This marks Tinubuβs second Council of State meeting since assuming office, following the first session held in August 2024.
βIn attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
βAlso present were Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi.
βOthers are the National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside several serving governors.
Former Chief Justices present included Muhammad Tanko, Mohammed Belgore, and Walter Onnoghen.
βThe meeting is expected to focus on pressing national security matters and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
