Three of the gunmen who have been attacking offices of the Independent Electoral Commission have been killed in Imo State.
The criminals were killed on Monday morning during a botched attempt to attack the headquarters of INEC in Owerri.
The Network investigation revealed that the gunmen who stormed the office in large numbers were repelled by a combined team of security operatives and vigilantes.
It was gathered that the operatives of the Imo State Police Command were able to capture one of the hoodlums.
It was gathered that they ran into a police ambush at Ogbaku, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
The hoodlums were said to have abandoned their two of their operational vehicles while the police seized five rifles from them.
Among them are three AK 47 and two pump action rifles.
The Network gathered that the attack took place between 2.50am – 3.45am on Monday
The police source said that operatives are still in hot pursuit of the fleeing hoodlums at the time of filing this report.
There have been an increase in the attacks and burning of offices in the country ahead of the 2023 general elections.
There have been similar attacks in Ogun, Osun, Imo, Ebonyi, and some other states in the South East.
