By Kamsi Anayo

The Federal Government has issued a directive for the return of all its ambassadors, as confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

Recent reports highlighted the recall of Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola. However, in a clarification made on Saturday, Minister Tuggar emphasized that this move is not targeted at specific individuals but encompasses both career and non-career ambassadors.

This update was conveyed by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Al-Kashim Abdul-Kadir, who stated: “In response to questions regarding the recall of the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has reiterated that the recall of all career and non-career ambassadors is based on directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It’s the president’s discretion to appoint or recall ambassadors from any nation.”

The ambassadors have been instructed to begin the process of concluding their duties in their respective countries. They are to formally bid farewell to their host governments within the next 60 days and ensure their return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023.

Expressing gratitude for their dedicated service abroad, the minister conveyed his anticipation to greet them in Abuja upon their return.
