TEN BODIES RECOVER IN A BOAT MISHAP IN NIGER AS SEARCH FOR OTHERS ONGOING

No fewer than 10 bodies out of over 25 passengers involved involved in a boat mishap at Bodo Village in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State have been recovered, on Wednesday.

The intense search for the remaining victims of the boat mishap is still ongoing.

This was disclosed by the State Emergence Management Agency, SEMA, to newsmen on Thursday in Minna.

The SEMA boss, Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim Iniga, said the boat driver lost control of the engine, while trying to crossover to Zumbia village.

According to SEMA, the management went into a search for the victims immediately the incident occurred to possibly rescue the remaining victims.

SEMA said it was being assisted by local divers, who have been able to recover 10 bodies while the search is still going on for more bodies.

The Network gathered that passengers on board of the ill fated boat are over 25 people.

It was learned that some of the bodies recovered have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The accident was said to have occurred when the victims were trying to escape terrorists attacks.

Network gathered that the terrorists allegedly took over Guni and Kurgbaku communities in Munya Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, Governor, Sani Bello, has ordered the State Emergency Agency to intensify search and rescue operations adding that the incident is painful and disturbing.

The Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel-Berje, condoled with the family members of the victims and the entire people of Munya Local Government Area.

According to him, the unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens in the communities are very unfortunate.

Governor Sani Bello enjoined the joint security operatives to up their game and be more proactive in their operations.

He appreciated the efforts and sacrifices of the security operatives adding that they should do more to protect lives and property.
