News Investigators/ Andy Yih-Ping Liu, Taiwan’s Representative and Head of Mission in Nigeria, has congratulated Nigeria on its renewed diplomatic engagements with Saint Lucia and Caribbean States.
In a statement on Friday, Mr Liu described President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Saint Lucia as a landmark diplomatic achievement for Nigeria.
He also congratulated President Tinubu on receiving the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (K.C.O.S.L.) for fostering Africa-Caribbean relations.
Mr Liu said the honour reflected Tinubu’s visionary expansion of Nigeria’s global presence and deeper cooperation with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
He praised Tinubu’s foresight and commitment to extending Nigeria’s diplomatic outreach to the Caribbean, just as Taiwan had done with Saint Lucia.
Mr Liu noted that during the visit, President Tinubu might have toured facilities jointly developed by Taiwan and Saint Lucian authorities.
He said Taiwan maintains full diplomatic ties with Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Haiti.
According to him, Taiwan’s development assistance in healthcare, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, trade and sustainability has spurred economic and social growth in Saint Lucia and beyond.
“We are proud our support has yielded results. We hope Nigeria joins in these humanitarian and economic partnerships in the Caribbean,” Liu said.
He emphasised that Taiwan’s ties with Saint Lucia have made it a reliable and vital partner to the Caribbean.
Mr Liu urged Nigeria to view Taiwan as a highly advanced and dependable partner for meaningful cooperation.
“The people of Taiwan gladly share expertise and innovations to help countries overcome global challenges,” Liu stated.
He added that Taiwan stands ready to collaborate with Nigeria by sharing its strengths in areas of mutual interest and comparative advantage.
