SUSPECTED HERDSMEN INVADE BILLIRI TOWN, GOMBE, ON NEW YEAR DAY

Armed bandits numbering more than ten reportedly invaded Awai Quarters in Billiri town of Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The Network gathered that the unexpected attack took place on new year day while everybody was preparing the mood of celebration.

However, it was learnt that no one was killed in the attack.

According to an account, the armed bandits in black attires attacked about seven houses robbing residents of their belongings.

The bandits were said to have carted away mobile phones and money, as they beat up those who did not have money to offer them.

It was gathered that the bandits operated without security intervention  from 1 a.m until 4 a.m to the utter shock of the community.

A reliable source (named withheld) who claimed he narrowly escaped being a victim, said he saw the bandits in black as they passed by his house around 1 a.m.

The source said the residents of Awai Quarters are now living in fear as their lives are in the danger. 

As at press time there was no police or military surveillance in the area and Billiri Town as a whole, the source claimed. 

The jolted people called on the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, as the Chief Security Officer of the State to ensure immediate deployment of security agents in the entire Billiri in order to prevent destruction of lives and property.
