SUDAN: FIRST BATCH OF NIGERIAN EVACUEES ARRIVE ABUJA

The first batch of Nigerian evacuees from the war ravaged Sudan has arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.

A total of 376 Nigerians who were trapped in Sudan were airlifted from Aswan, Egypt to the Federal Capital territory with Nigerian Air Force C-130H aircraft and Air Peace.

The planes which evacuated the first set of evacuees which took  4 pm on Wednesday night.

The evacuees who were expected at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 11:23 landed at 11:35 pm at great relief to their family members.

The the Director Migration, National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Displaced Persons, Mrs. Catherine Udid received the evacuees at the Airport.

She explained that while the NAF C130 flew in 94 of them, the Air Peace flight airlifted 282.

The chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the arrival of the Nigerians fleeing Sudan as a huge relief in view of their experience in the country.

The Network gathered that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the permanent secretary in the ministry,  Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib, security officials and family members were on ground to receive them.
