Kwara state government has reduced the number of working days for its civil servants in the state as a measure to caution the effects of the hike in transportation occasioned the removal of the controversial oil subsidy by the federal government.

According to the state, workers are to work for  three days in a week.

The state decision to cut down the  work days was aimed at alleviating the financial burden placed on the state’s residents due to the sudden surge in fuel prices.

This was contained in a statement by the State Head of Service (HOS), Mrs. Susan Modupe Oluwole on Monday.

She said that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak had directed a reduction in work days from five to three days per week for all state-employed workers.

Oluwole, in a statement by her Chief Press Secretary, Murtala Atoyebi, said the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, “directed that the workdays be reduced from five days to three days per week for every worker.”

Atoyebi said, “Mrs Oluwole directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to immediately work out a format indicating the alternating work days for each worker under them.

“The Head of Service however, warned the workers not to abuse the magnanimity of the Governor, stressing that the regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.

“Under the new schedule, the Kwara Head of Service, Susan Modupe Oluwole, said government employees will only work for three days a week, with the remaining two days designated as non-working days.” The statement said.
