Sit-at-home: Shootings in Enugu as Gunmen Attack New Market, burn police van

There was heavy shootings in Enugu early Saturday morning as hoodlums enforcing 5 days sit-at-home attacked the New Market area of Enugu capital city.

Eye witnesses say the gunmen numbering over 10 stormed the area as early as 6:am Saturday and started shooting, scaring people away.

A police van was also set ablaze in front of the Colliery hospital at New Market.

Traders and early customers at the New Market were reportedly left trapped inside the market.

No casualty has been officially confirmed by the authorities as at the time of this report just as police is yet to make a statement on the incident.

However, there are reports that three persons and a pregnant woman were killed in the disturbances.

The Network gathered that the woman who came out early was hit hubs stray bullet fired by the Hoodlums enforcing the sit- at-home.

It was gathered that the attack is a deliberate effort to scare the people and force them to obey the 5 days sit-at-home order being forced by Simon Ekpa.

The sit-at-home which was supposed to have commenced on Friday was not obeyed throughout South East.

Unknown gunmen had also attacked and killed a Policeman Friday evening in Owerri, Imo state capital.

A brother to Nollywoood actor Paw-paw was also shot dead in Owerri, while a serving commissioner was attacked and given machete cuts.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered a manhunt for those behind the attacks in which a white police patrol van was burnt in front of the market.

The CP ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Commanders of all the Tactical/Operational Units of the Command to carry out deployment of all intelligence and operational resources in the pursuit  the hoodlums 

The Spokesman of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police described said in a statement on Saturday that the sit-home was illegal abs urged people to hold about their normal duties.
