Sit-At-Home: Gunmen abduct Anambra market chairman

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Onitsha and its environs following the alleged abduction of the chairman of Mgbuka Amazu market, Onitsha, Chief Francis Enibe, in the early hours of Monday, by a yet to be identified gunmen.

Market sources said that the market chairman was beaten to stupor after opening the market as directed by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo before he was dumped into a waiting vehicle and whisked away to an unkwown destination .

Confirming the incident, the President of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna, said he had been briefed and they have been making frantic efforts to establish contact with him.

He was said to have been whisked away when about five armed men stormed his shop, shooting indiscriminately into the air.

The gunmen were said to have beaten him seriously before  throwing  him into booth of on of the  SUV vehicles used for the operations.

Mgbuka Amazu is an old motor spare parts market situated on the outskirt of Onitsha, off Owerri/Onitsha road.

Recall that Gov. Soludo had some weeks ago directed market leaders in the state to open their markets on Mondays.

He asked them to observe  prayer sessions and clean the markets and drainages.

The Spokesman for Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said he had yet to get a detailed information on the incident and promised to it available to the public.
