Afrobeat Singer, Seun Kuti, has explained that policeman he assaulted in a viral video in Lagos attempted to kill him and his wife.

Seun said in  a post on Instagram that the policeman had apologized to him and he did not press charges against him.

He urged Nigerians to leave the issue so that the policeman would not lose his job. 

“He tried to kill me and my family, I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business, make the poor guy no lose him job.”

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, on Saturday, ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti.

Kuti was seen in a viral video assaulting a police officer on uniform.

He slapped the officer who showed surprise but held himself and refused to retaliate.

Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Saturday, said the IGP had equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly. 

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.” The statement read.
