The Senator representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, Senator Henry on Tuesday received his certificate of return from the Chairman of the Indepedent National Electoral Commission alongside other senators- elect.
Speaking shortly after receiving his certificate of return for at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, the Senator said that he would use the opportunity of his return to the Senate to pursue the review of the constitution, restructuring, development of Bayelsa, the Niger Delta among others.
He urged the next President to give the deserved attention to the burning issue of restructuring in the country.
The Senator also commended his colleagues in the Electoral Committee for the work done which resulted in the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System said a lot of work still needs to be done.
He said, “This opportunity to spend a full tenure in the Senate is an opportunity to consolidate on most of the achievements and the foundations laid.
“The next four years will see a renewed work on constitutional amendment and the pursuit of restructuring.
“I will urge whoever is the president to ensure that the restructuring of Nigeria comes to the fore.
“We will work for environmental justice for our people, we will work for inclusion of our people in all aspect of our nation’s life and we will work for the Federal Government to support the development of Bayelsa state. Key development should not be left to the state government to handle.
“The same goes for the oppressed and deprived Ijaw people, for whom every opportunity I have will be utilized to ensure that they benefit from key Federal projects either directly from the federation or development agencies.
“I commend my colleagues in the electoral affairs committee for the work we have done, leading to the introduction of the BIVAS however, it is clear that more work and finetuning needs to be done.
“In all, I look forward to a very exciting tenth Senate and hope to work with a lot of friends, colleagues, majority of whom I have seen today, having been elected. I saw colleagues from my days in the house of representatives, colleagues in the ninth Senate and colleague former governors and I hope to leverage on all of these contacts and network.”
He thanked his constituents and indeed the Senatorial Campaign Council led by Chief Fynman Wilson for the opportunity given to him to return TJ the Senate.
Dickson who said that he was receiving certificates of return for the sixth time four of which were to the National Assembly, hailed his people for delivering him in all the wards and communities of the Senatorial District.
“I thank my family, my constituents, the chiefs, the elders, the women, youths, the entire members of the Senatorial campaign council led by the indefatigable elder Fynman Wilson.
“I thank all traditional rulers, Royal Majesties, Highnesses, women leaders, community leaders, youth leaders, students, all NGOs and the entire people of Bayelsa West Senatorial district for their overwhelming support.
“That I won in all communities and in all wards is no mean feat. I value the support and cannot thank the people enough. This is the sixth consecutive time I am receiving a certificate of return; twice in the House of Representatives, twice as governor and twice as Senator. I owe my people a lifetime of service and gratitude.” He added
