SENATE CLEARS BUHARI’S MINISTERIAL NOMINEES

The Senate has screened and confirmed the seven ministerial nominees whose names were forwarded by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Upper Chamber last week Tuesday.

The nominees are a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Goodluck Opiah, Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, Abia State; Umana Okon Umana, Akwa Ibom State; Ekumankama Joseph Nkama, Ebonyi State; and Goodluck Nana Opiah, Imo State.

Others are Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub, Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegoroye, Ondo State; and Odum Odi, Rivers State..

The screening exercise started around 12 noon and was brought to an end around 4:40pm.

The former Imo Speaker, Goodluck Opiah who is the Commissioner for Petroleum Resources in Imo state, promised to promote fruitful cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature as a former lawmaker.

His counterpart from Abia State, Ikoh Henry Ikechukwu advised the Federal Government to site modular refineries in oil-producing communitie

He said that such a move has the twin benefits of job creation and reduction of the recurrent fuel scarcity in the society.

The mnominees from Ebonyi Joseph Ekumankana Nkama from Ebonyi state, aged 46, called on the Federal Government and the union to resolve the issues behind the protracted industrial dispute that has kept students at home for months.

He also advised the youths to exploit new areas of investment waiting to be tapped.

The nominee from Akwa Ibom called on the Federal Government to take the bold step to create the enabling environment to boost private sector  production of goods and services as a deliberate response to the challenge of scarcity of forex.
