Rivers Assembly Sends Impeachment Notice To Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly had forwarded a notice of impeachment to the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The House forwarded the notice shortly after an impeachment proceeding on the floor of the house.

The member representing

Omuma State Constituency Sylvanus Nwankwo  presented the notice of impeachment against the Governor.

It gathered that the motive was signed by 24 out of 34 members.

The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Martins Amaewhule, directed that the notice be forwarded to the Governor in consonance with the legal procedure  for impeachment.

The lawmaker are accusing the Governor of “acts of gross misconduct unbecoming of his office.”

An explosion had rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Sunday night.

The incident came amid alleged moves by some lawmakers to impeach Gov. Siminalayi Fubara.

It was gathered that some suspected arsonists threw an explosive into the complex around 9:25pm, causing a fire in the building.

Though the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, could not be reached on her mobile, a senior police officer confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

The Network gathered that some properties inside the chamber were destroyed.

The police officer, who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, claimed it was politically motivated.

“Yes it is true. The fire occurred around 9:30pm or so. But as we speak, it (the fire) has been put out by firefighters who arrived at the scene just in time. I think it has to do with politics,” he stated.

Our correspondent gathered that arrangements have been concluded by some lawmakers in the state legislature to first impeach the House leader, Eddison Ehie, to pave the way for Fubara’s removal.

The House leader was said to have been blocking moves aimed at removing Fubara.

The House attempted to remove Edison Ehie, as the House Leader for allegedly supervision of the burning of the Assembly Complex on Sunday night, and suspended

three other lawmakers.

The suspended lawmakers are Victor Okoh from Bonny State Constituency, Goodboy Sokari from Ahoada West State Constituency, and Adolphus Timothy from Opobo Nkoro State Constituency
