Respite For Fubara, Odu, As Rivers Lawmakers Sheath Impeachment Sword

News Investigators/ Embattled governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu may now heave a sigh of relief as the State lawmakers,Thursday resolved to suspend the impeachment move against the duo.

The lawmakers sheath the impeachment sword following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention culminating in a deal between Mr. Fubara and his estranged godfather and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a motion unanimously passed at its resumed plenary in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, the lawmakers resolved to suspend the impeachment process which was initially stalled by the State Attorney General’s failure to proceed with the move. He had cited a court order restraining him.

It would be recalled that the State lawmakers had commenced an impeachment plot against the governor and his deputy during their first meeting in 2026.

They alleged grave official misconduct that included the controversial demolition of the State Assembly building and unauthorised spending without approval from the legislature, among others.

Mr. Fubara and Mr. Wike have been engaged in incessant power struggle in the State with Wike accusing Fubara of breaching the terms of an alleged gentleman agreement reached before his emergence as governor.
