Popular R$B singer R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.
The singer’s sentencing followed his conviction by a Federal Court on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
R Kelly was convicted on nine counts in 2021 which included racketeering and violation of Mann Act.
He was reported to have faced seven of his accusers in the court who recounted their ordeals with the singer.
The Indepedent reported that his prosecutors pressed for more than 25 years jail term for the singer to “protect the public” from him.
But surprisingly, the Judge Ann Donnelly announced a prison sentence of 30 years for Kelly, which is five years more than what the prosecutors requested for.
One of the lawyers, Gloria Allred, who represented the three women who testified against R Kelly, told journalists that harm caused the victims by the singer was irreversible.
