PROTEST AS UBA UNLEASHES DIRTY N50 NOTES ON CUSTOMERS IN MAITAMA, ABUJA

As the scarcity of the new notes takes its toll on residents of Abuja, a branch of the United Bank for Africa has unleashed dirty, tattered and smelling N50 notes on its customers.

The branch manager in Maitama told our correspondent when he was confronted that the money was given to the bank by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Efforts to get the label on the money was resisted by the bank as some customers queried why a bank would pay N50 notes in such poor conditions to its clients.

The customers protested briefly at the banking hall that UBA was unfair to them having loaded new denomination of N1000 into ATM for the public.

The bank which allowed its customers to withdraw through the counter disappointed the customers and many including this correspondent left without collecting tattered and dirty money.

As the place became rowdy with protesting voices, the manager said he had noted the complaints of the customers.

Our correspondent contacted the Spokesperson of the CBN, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, but the calls to his telephone line did not connect.

Also, he was yet to respond to a text on whether the CBN is unleashing dirty, partially torn N50 notes on the residents of Abuja.
