Popular Musician, Chris Mba Is dead

Popular musician and a Veteran singer, Chris Mba, of the ‘Baby Don’t Cry’  Fame has died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, after a long prolonged fight with heart issues, on Wednesday.

The General Manager of Premier Music, which signed the late Chris, Michael Odiong, made this known on his Instagram account. 

Confirming the death of the Abia State-born artiste, on Thursday, in a post, he said the musician died on Wednesday night of heart-related disease.

“The management of Premier Records Ltd has expressed sadness on the demise of one of its artistes, Mr Chris Mba, who passed on yesterday 3rd May 2023 after a long battle with heart issues. He posted. 

Odiong, described Chris Mba as a bundle of talent who localised pop music by adding local instruments into his music to give the African feel.

According to him, the late artiste created waves in the late 80s up to the 90s when he released hits like “Baby Don’t Cry”, “Money” etc.

“We condole with the family and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Chris Mba was famous in the 80s for his signature Jerry curl and hits like ‘Funky Situation’, ‘Love Everlasting’, ‘Baby Don’t Cry’ and ‘Making my way’.

Tony Okoroji, Chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), on Thursday, also confirmed the death of the archival musician, Chris Mba of the “Baby Don’t Cry” fame.

 “I am beyond sad at the loss of my colleague and friend, Chris Mba, a great musician, whose contribution to the repositioning of the Highlife sound is unquestionable. Not too long ago, I visited Chris at his Surulere home with the great Richard Cole, my colleague on the COSON Board.”  Okoroji said.
