Plateau Gov. Congratulates Ex CDS Over Nomination As minister

News Investigators/ Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has congratulated the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, over his nomination by President Bola Tinubu to serve as a minister.

This is contained in congratulatory message by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to the governor, made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Jos.

President Tinubu had on Tuesday forwarded the name of Mr Musa to the Senate for confirmation as Minister of Defence.

The nomination followed the resignation of Mohammed Badaru as Minister of Defence.

Mr Mutfwang commended the president for the choice of Mr Musa, saying  that the nomination suggested Tinubu’s commitment to putting square pegs in square holes.

“Mr Musa is a gallant, courageous, and exceptionally competent officer who has made immeasurable sacrifices in fostering peace, unity, and national cohesion.

“His doggedness and steadfast commitment as CDS is a clear indication that he will bring renewed vigour, clarity of purpose, and effective strategy to Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry and other security challenges.

“Mr Musa’s nomination is a fitting recognition for a man whose life embodies intellectual depth, professional excellence, discipline, and an unshakable dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

“I am confident that Mr Musa, if confirmed by senate as a minister, will not disappoint the President and Nigerians,” Mr Bere quoted Mr Mutfwang as  saying.

The governor urged the senate to speedily confirm Musa, and called for collective efforts at all levels to secure the nation and win the war against terrorism and security challenges.

Mr Musa, 57, was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1991 and has since had a distinguished career.

His appointments included General Staff Officer 1, Training/Operations at HQ 81 Division, Commanding Officer, 73 Battalion; Assistant Director, Operational Requirements, Department of Army Policy and Plans and Infantry Representative/Member, Training Team, HQ Nigerian Army Armour Corps.

In 2019, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Training/Operations, Headquarters Infantry Centre and Corps; Commander, Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole; and Commander, Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Region.

In 2021, Musa was appointed Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai.

He later became Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps before he was appointed CDS by Tinubu in 2023.
