The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to help the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party to lose the 2023 Presidential elections.
Wike who accused the PDP Chairman of arrogance and ingratitude said that since he (Ayu) was not interest in strengthening the party with the purpose of winning the forthcoming election, he and others would help him to lose it.
The Rivers State Governor who spoke on Thursday at the inauguration of roads in Ikwerre LGA of the state, was reacting to comments by Ayu on Wednesday that those calling for his resignation were children.
An angry Ayu had told the BBC Hausa Service that those who were calling for his removal were little kids who knew nothing about how and when the PDP was formed.
“We founded the PDP in Nigeria. So, some children / kids who have no inkling about the struggle cannot become a problem.
“When we started the PDP we did not see these children/kids, they didn’t know why we founded this party. We will not allow an individual come and destroy our party.”
Ayu also foreclosed the possibility of his resignation as national chairman insisting that he was elected for a period of four years.
“I was elected to lead the PDP for a four-year term, I have not even spent one year. The election of Atiku as Presidential candidate has nothing to do with the position of National Chairman. I won an election as prescribed by our party constitution.
“I did not commit any crime, I’m only bringing in positive reforms to the party, honestly I’m not bothered by the noise. He had said
But Wike said that the ‘children’ Ayu referred to brought him from the gutter and made him chairman of the party.
He said that Ayu’s arrogance made him to be impeached as Senate President and also made former President Obasanjo to sack him, insisting it wouldn’t take him anywhere.“You can imagine what power can do. You can imagine how ingratitude, how people can be ingrates in their lives,”
“I thought as a chairman of a party who wants to win elections, your business is to bring peace to your party; your business is not to divide your party. Your business is not to show arrogance to your party.
“Yes, the children brought you to be chairman of the party. The children brought you from the gutter to make you chairman.
“Ayu, you were impeached as senate president. Ayu, you were sacked by Obasanjo in his administration. Arrogance cannot take you anywhere.
“Now, we have seen that you don’t want the party to win the election. We will help you.
“These children — these people you call boys — brought you from nothing.”
