Former Governor of Osun State and Minister of Interior on Sunday deleted a post where he seemed to have mocked the defeat of his political enemy and successor Governor Gboyega Oyetola by Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Aregbesola traveled out of the country on ostensibly a day to the gubernatorial election on Friday to attend a conference of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
There are media reports that the event is slated for Monday.
There is an unconfirmed trending video of the minister in an eatery in the United State.
The Minister backed a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti in the Osun gubernatorial primaries in February but he lost to Oyetola.
Shortly after the result of the election was released, Aregbesola put up a post that was suggestive of celebrating the loss of his party’s candidate.
“Osun Le Tente. This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. – (Daniel 4:17).”
However, the post was deleted but not before it was saved by many.
He described the post as unauthorized and urged the media to discountenance them in a statement by his media aide, Mr Sola Fasure.
“It has come to the attention of the media office of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, that an unauthorized message was posted on his Verified Twitter & Facebook Pages at about 8:00am on Sunday 17th July, 2022.
“The unauthorized messages have now been deleted. Members of the public, especially the media, are advised to ignore!” The statement said.
