One corps member of the National Youth Service Corps posted to Anambra state last year died during the 2021/2022 service year.
This is as 42 of the corps members have their service year extended for violating NYSC rules.
However it was smiles for three of corps members as they were recommended for state awards for their outstanding performances during the service year in their various places of primary assignment.
It was learnt that the late corps member died due to natural illness.
The State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo represented by commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha-Mba disclosed this in his speech during passing out parade of 2021/2022 Batch B Stream 1 Corps members deployed to Anambra state which held at the Ekwueme Square Awka, the state capital.
Soludo said, “Regrettably, we lost one of you , in the course of the service year. On this note let pause for a minute in honour of our fallen hero. May his soul rest in peace ” he said.
The governor also promised to address some of the challenges at the NYSC permanent orientation camp Mbakwu/Umuawulu, in Awka local government.”
The governor promised to address the erosion menace ravaging the NYSC camp in the state.
He said that professional in erosion management have been contacted to deal with the problem.
According to Soludo, the State government cannot watch the structure at the camp to be washed away by erosion
The state coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma said that three corps members were recommended for state award and 11 for State Coordinator’s letter of Commendation.
She said, “I am glad to report that out of these Corps members, three of them have been recommended for State’s Honor’s Award and 11 for State Coordinator’s letter of Commendation.
“On the other hand, 42 Corps members defaulted in at least one out of the four cardinal programs of the Scheme and have been recommended for correctional measures ranging from 2 weeks extension to outright repeat of service” she added .
