At least one person, simply identified as Amobi Igwe “Omeli” was on Wednesday killed in a supremacy cult war at the popular Eke Awka market in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The deceased, one of the leaders of Aye cult group, being used to enforce traders levy compliance was killed around 7 am inside the market as traders were arriving their shops in what look like a reprisal attack.

A source said it was a usual fight  between the Baga and Aye cult groups in the market.

” It is all about market politics. The man killed was the guy being used to enforce compliance. Anytime the market leadership want to enforce any agenda, he is the person and others they use,” he said.

He said the Baga cult group members were pursuing Omeli and he ran into the market to mobilize his boys to rescue him. Unfortunately, before his boys could get the information, they have killed, beheaded and cut off his manhood.

According to him, it is God that saved the market, because if the Aye members had arrived on time, many people would have been killed.

“He was killed right inside the market close to abattoir and they cut his head and male organ with a butcher’s knife.

“It is by God’s grace the deceased members could not come on time, it would have been disastrous,” he noted.

He added also that the traders ran away during the violence, but have returned to their shops.

The source recalled that few weeks ago, Aye cult group killed one Baga man simply identified as “Salvage”, cut his head and male organ in the same market.

When contacted the state Police Command spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident and investigation is on going
