The Management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on Saturday distances itself from the alleged female, Corps members reportedly found on the NYSC uniform, with political campaign posters of a particular party in a rally.

Recall that the video of some female, Corps members trended on social media adoring the NYSC uniforms while in a political rally.

The Management of the Corps described the alleged action as antithetical to the policy and rules of the Scheme adding that it’s a complete assault on the integrity of the NYSC, which is linked to the electoral body.

A statement by the Director, of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, said the action of the alleged female corps members betrayed the political neutrality and non-partisanship of the NYSC.

The statement urged the general public to ignore the information contained in the posters.

It urged Corps Members to abide by the policy of the Scheme that forbids them from showing partisan interest.

“The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to a campaign poster making the rounds in the social media, showing some ladies in NYSC uniform purporting to be Corps Members endorsing one of the political parties in the country.

“The message encapsulated in the poster is antithetical to the policy of the scheme which forbids Corps Members from showing interest in partisan politics.

“In addition, it is a direct assault on the integrity of the NYSC which is among the electoral umpires and has been in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission in the conduct of elections in Nigeria since 2008.

“Management hereby restates that the Scheme remains apolitical, and neutral without any form of attachment to any political party…

“Management also wishes to use this medium to remind members of the public that Section 14 of the NYSC Act makes it an offense for any person who is not a Corps Member to wear the NYSC uniform.  Such a person if found guilty is liable on conviction to six(6) months imprisonment and or a fine.

“Consequently, the general public is hereby advised to discountenance the information contained in the poster; while strongly admonishing Corps Members to abide by the policy of the Scheme that forbids them from showing interest in partisan politics.” The statement reads.
