NLC STRIKE: IMO GOVT SACKS COMMISSIONER FOR LABOUR

The Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Ford Ozumba, has been dismissed from office by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Saturday.

Uzondinma sacked the commissioner following the labour dispute between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Imo State Government.

Ozumba was expelled as commissioner via a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba.

The statement directed Ozumba to hand over all necessary documents to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity immediately.

Emeluba didn’t give reasons for the sacking, it was gathered that  it may not be unconnected with the ongoing logjam between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Joe Ajaero and the Imo State Government.

Recall that the state chapter of the NLC, conducted election of the union which was allegedly truncated by the agents of the state government.

It was learned that the former Commissioner, Ozumba, had  insisted on a free and fair labour electoral process without state interference, which did not auger well with the governor who felt betrayed by the union and the axed Ozumba.

He was said to have supported the workers in the state to have a leadership of their own who would be independent and wouldn’t be answerable to  the State government House.
