Nigeria’s first chartered Accountant, Akintola Williams is dead.

The foremost accountant who was born in 1919 passed on at a ripe age of 104.

Akintola Williams who graduated from the University of London, died in his house in Lagos on Monday.

The legendary accountant who qualified as a chartered accountant in 1947, set up the Akintola Williams & Co., now Deloitte & Touche, in 1952.

A legend with a passion for the development of the Accounting Profession in Nigeria, Akintola Williams was a founding member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

He was president of ICAN from 1963 to 1965 and was also a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.

Williams received many awards and honours, including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
