The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, on Monday, confirmed the release of the former Governor of Plateau and Taraba States, Senator Joshua Dariye, and Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame respectively.
The FCT Spokesperson for the NCS, Chukwuedo Humphrey, confirmed the release of the former governors from Kuje prison.
He stated also that the authorities also released three other inmates who were at the Suleija prison.
However, he did not reveal the identity of the other three inmates who regained freedom toddy.
He said that the Prison authorities released them today having received their warrant of release.
“We have no right to hold them further as soon as we have the letter of clemency from the presidency.
“If we do, it will be against their fundamental human rights.
“They have left the facility today. We got the warrant of release today and have done the needful.
“Dariye and Nyame were in Kuje custodial centre while the three others were in Suleja custodial centre,” he said.
Recall that the two ex- governors were granted pardon on April 14 by the Council of State, Chaired by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)
While former Taraba Governor, Nyame, 66, (1999 to 2007) was serving a 12-year jail term at the Kuje prison over misappropriation of funds, his Plateau counterpart, Dariye, 64, who was Governor of Plateau State between 1999 and 2007, was also jailed for corruption.
Their recent pardon attracted public outcry and condemnation.
