News Investigators/ The Niger government has assured residents of Munya Local Government Area of adequate security during the forthcoming by-election for the state House of Assembly.
The Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, gave the assurance on Sunday during his campaign tour to various wards in the area, including Beni, Daza, Fuka and Dandaudu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the by-election is scheduled for 16 Aug. 16, following the death of Joseph Haruna on 13 Sept. 13, 2024.
Mr Haruna was the member representing Munya constituency before his passing.
Mr Garba stressed the need for peace and calmness among voters, urging youths and women to prioritise peaceful conduct over disputes.
“We must maintain civility and ensure a peaceful electioneering process.
“As a government, we have put measures in place to guarantee voter safety and promote transparency during the election process,” he said.
The deputy governor also appealed to voters to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attract more dividends of democracy and responsible governance.
He expressed confidence in the APC-led government’s commitment to providing good governance and accountability.
