NHRC Spokesman, Ali Alola-Alfinti, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Thursday.
According to Mr Alola-Alfinti, the commission treated 98 of the complaints, which represented 86.73 per cent of the reported cases.
“10 others are still undergoing treatment, while five complaints not within the commission’s mandate were referred to concerned agencies for proper treatment,” he said.
He disclosed that cases involving family abandonment were 34, representing 30.1 per cent of the total reported cases, while complaints on inhuman and degrading treatment were 24, representing 21.24 per cent.
Mr Alola-Alfinti said rights to freedom from discrimination were 15, representing 13.27 per cent, denial of right to economic development six, access to justice seven.
“Right to life, four; rape two; dignity of human treatment two and other related issues four,” he added.
According to him, all cases received were subjected to admissibility test to find out if there were violations or not before being treated or referred.
Mr Alola-Alfinti said though awareness on the need for cases of violations to be reported were being accepted by residents; he noted that there were still cases that were largely unreported.
He urged residents to always report rights violation to the commission, stressing that any act of violation not reported, embolden perpetrators to continue to violate the rights of more persons.
