NAIRA SCARCITY: NLC ORDERS NATIONWIDE PROTESTS IN CBN OFFICES ACROSS NIGERIA

As Nigerians groan from the misery of the scarcity of the Naira, the Nigeria Labour Congress has ordered all workers to protest at the offices of the Central Bank of Nigeria next week.

The President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, said during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday that the strike notice was given following the expiration of a one-week ultimatum to the CBN to make the Naira notes available for Nigerians to address the misery caused by the Naira redesign policy.

The ruling of the Supreme Court of March 3 to extend the validity of the old Naira notes has not brought succor to a groaning Nigerian citizenry.

Thousands of Naira besiege the banks in cities across the nation in search of the Naira everyday.

Many Nigerians pay to buy the Naira in the rural areas of Nigeria while millions of  Naira worth of farm produce are destroyed daily.

Others sleep outside the banking halls as they struggle to reverse amounts of money deducted from their account from PoS which ‘declined’ their transactions.

This is in spite of a statement by the Acting Director  Director, Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, which stated that the old Naira note was still legal tender in the country.

The statement issued in March 14, directed Deposit Money Banks to comply with the Supreme Court judgement the old N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes remain a legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31.
