Moroccans Make History With Shock World Cup Win Iover Spain

Morocco have secured their place in the next round after beating Spain on penalties at the Education City Stadium. 

The game between the two nations finished goalless before Luis Enrique’s side missed all three of their penalties in the shootout. 

Morocco reached the quarter-finals for the first time with a 3-0 penalty shootout win over Spain and will face either Portugal or Switzerland on Saturday.

Spanish-born Achraf Hakimi scored the decisive spot-kick for Morocco, following a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.

They are playing in their sixth finals, having reached the last 16 once before in 1986.

The only African side still in the game, Morocco failed to qualify for the knockout stage in 2018 with one point.

The World Cup knockout phase heads towards the quarter-finals kicking off on Friday in Qatar. Below are the teams who have advanced into the last eight.

Brazil, Croatia, England, Argentina, France and Netherland.

The pairings in the quarter finals are Brazil vs Croatia, Netherland vs Argentina, England vs France, Morocco will meet the winners between  Portugal or Switzerland on Saturday.
