The Governors under the aegis  of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, accused oil marketers of inflicting pains on Nigerians under the quise of oil subsidy removal.

President Bola Tinubu during his inauguration announced immediate removal of the fuel subsidy.

The governors condemned the marketers during a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa.

The Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, condemned the price increase, and described it as “old stock”, while calling on Nigerians to support the government’s decision to remove the subsidy.

He reiterated the Governors’ support for the removal of subsidy on petrol.

According to Uzodinma, the decision for the removal of fuel subsidy, was reached by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, by the National Economic Council (NEC), led by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to him,  the decision became inevitable with the realization that the subsidy  was no longer possible to fund subsidy.

The meeting is the first official interaction between President Tinubu and the governors of his party since assuming office as the President.

About 17 of the governors were in attendance during the meeting.
