Just In: Missing Ondo Director Found Beheaded

Tension has mounted in Ondo State as the mutilated body of a director in the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. Gbenga Olofingboyegun has been discovered in Akure, the state capital.

Until his disappearance, Olofingboyegun, was the Director of the Department of Research and Statistics in TESCOM.

He was declared missing on Thursday after he left the office for undisclosed reasons.

 His body was found on Sunday with his head cut off.

Family and friends suspect that he was a victim of kidnappers.

Sources close to the family said the relatives had waited for the call of his supposed abductors for a ransom payment.

Initial efforts to trace him were fruitless until his decomposing body was found in Saint Theresa Primary School beside Saint Peter’s Unity School, Akure.

Eyewitnesses said Olofingboyegun’s head and other sensitive parts of the body were removed and taken away by the suspected assailants.

Findings revealed that the deceased was still dressed in a suit and tie which he wore to the office when his decomposing body was found.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami who confirmed that a decomposing human remains was discovered at the location however said the identity of the victim was still under investigation. 

“Yesterday afternoon somebody called to inform us that a decomposing corpse was found at Saint Theresa, close to St. Peter in Akure.

“When the police got there to remove the corpse some people came around and identified him as the director we have been searching for in the past three days.

“It was his suit they used to identify him, but his head has been cut off and his chest ripped open while his intestine was removed,” Odunlami said.

The police spokesperson said that investigation was continuing to unravel the circumstances behind the killing of the director.

“Investigation has started, his phone was left behind and some other things too. So, we are going to work with what we have to know if he had issues with anybody.

“And may be its a ritual case, but it is investigation that will reveal all these,” the PPRO said
