Judge’s Driver Sentenced To 2 Months Community Service For Stealing Boss’s N34,000

News Investigators/ Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Friday sentenced Isaiah Ojo (35) to two months community service for stealing his boss’s N34,000.

Mr Ojo, a driver attached to Justice Semiu Oyediran of the Oyo State High Court, was charged with theft and arraigned on Feb. 10.

He pleaded guilty to the lone count charge of theft.

The Magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, sentenced Ojo to two months community service with a family relation standing as a guarantor for him.

She ruled that the community service should run from Monday to Friday (8.00 am to 4.00 pm) of the two months.

Mrs Sanusi-Zubair also ordered Mr Ojo to pay back the N34,000 to his boss on or before on Feb.16.

The magistrate held that Mr Ojo would serve one month imprisonment at the Agodi correctional facility, Ibadan, if he fails to restitute the money.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Olagoke Adegbenro told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 6, at about 6.55 pm, at Iyaganku area, Ibadan.

He said that Mr Ojo stole the money from his boss’s bag without his consent.

He remarked that Mr Ojo had also stolen from his boss the previous day before that of N34, 000 occured.

According to him, Mr Ojo was caught and pardoned in the first time.

“But the day he stole the N34,000 he denied it, knowing full well that he did it.

“Subsequently, he was arrested and then charged to court as a result of that,” he said.

He added that the offence contravenes provision of Section 390(9) of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
